Buyers’ Guide

Peloton bikes, and spin bikes more generally, are a really great asset to have. They provide a way to have a great workout from the comfort of your own home!

However, these bikes, and all that comes with them, tend to be quite expensive. As such, it’s important to ensure that the kit you spend your hard-earned money on is exactly what you need.

To help you find the perfect toe cages for your bike and your own personal needs, we’ve created a handy buyers’ guide. We’ve included a number of things to consider before purchasing toe cages, and a step-by-step guide detailing how to install them.

Take a look below!

Compatibility

It is important to make sure that the toe cages you are buying are compatible with your particular bike. All of the options listed above are compatible with Peloton bikes.

Comfort

It might seem obvious, but you don’t want toe cages that are irritating or painful to use.

If you’re particularly picky about your comfort whilst cycling, opt for toe cages that come with some kind of customer satisfaction guarantee. This way, you should be able to try out the pedals and return them with no questions asked if you’re not happy with the level of comfort they provide.

Water Resistance

This is only really necessary if you plan to use your toe cages outdoors. If you do plan to do so, keep an eye out for toe cages made from water-resistant materials.

Size

This is a very important factor to consider when purchasing toe cages. If you buy toe cages that are too large or too small for your feet, the quality of your workout is likely to be lessened. Furthermore, you might even do yourself an injury.

Price

If you are on a budget, don’t be convinced by the fancy marketing of the more expensive options. You don’t necessarily need more expensive toe cages. Some of the more budget-friendly options in the list above will do the job just as well.

Quality

The last thing you want is to purchase a pair of toe cages to find that after a couple of intense spin sessions they’re breaking under the pressure.

If you’re concerned about quality, either opt for a trusted brand with a good reputation for quality products or look for a product that has a warranty of some kind.

How To Install Toe Cages On A Bike

Now you are able to narrow down your search, and hopefully find the perfect product for you, it’s important to understand how to install toe cages onto your bike. If you’re not sure how to do this, check out our step-by-step guide below.

1. Get set up

First, it’s important to ensure that you have enough space to be able to work on your bike. The bike will need to be in a reclined position to install the toe cages. This way, you should be able to see bolts at the front of the pedal frame. This is important because this is where you will be putting your toe cages.

If your bike comes with a reflector that is in the way of the installation position, make sure to remove it now. Keep it to hand, however, because you will need it again later. Once you’re comfortable and ready to begin, unscrew the bolts at the front of the pedal frame.

2. Placement

Pick up your toe cage and hold it against the holes (created by unscrewing the bolts). It’s necessary to make sure that the cage is facing the front of the bike. Now, move the toe cage around until it fits perfectly with the holes from where the bolts used to be.

3. Securing

Now you have found the perfect placement, you can begin to secure your toe cage to your bike. Simply begin screwing into the hole on the pedal, and tighten the bolts using an Allen Wrench. Ensure that all bolts and nuts are secure before moving onto step 4.

4. Repeat

Do this same process with the other toe cage.

5. Check

Once you are done, test out your work by putting your foot inside the toe cage. If everything feels fine and secure, congratulations! You’ve done it.

However, if something doesn't feel right, or the toe cage feels loose, you will need to unbolt the clips to take off the toe cage. Repeat steps two and three again to attach the toe cages more securely.

How To Install Toe Cages That Don’t Fit Into The Peloton Pedals

If you have toe cages that don’t fit into Peloton pedals, you need to replace the pedals with new ones. To replace the pedals, follow the steps below:

1. Remove original pedals

To do this, simply loosen the bolts that attach the pedals to the bike. Once loose, take them out.

2. Attach new pedals

Attaching the new pedals is simple. All you have to do is place them into the position of the old pedals. Then twist the right pedal clockwise, and the left pedal anti-clockwise to tighten.

3. Secure the pedals

To ensure the new pedals are secure, tighten them with an Allan wrench until resistance is felt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do I Need A Toe Cage?

It is possible to use a Peloton bike without a toe cage. However, to do so, you will need specific shoes designed for use on the bike. This can be expensive and is generally unnecessary, as by getting a toe cage, you can wear any shoes on your Peloton bike.

If multiple people make use of your Peleton bike, buying and installing a toe cage is definitely the most efficient method. This way, everyone who uses it can simply wear their regular shoes, rather than each of them having to purchase cycle-specific shoes.

Can You Use Regular Spin Shoes On A Peloton Bike?

Yes, as long as you have a toe cage installed. If you don’t have a toe cag installed, you will need to purchase specific shoes to use whilst on your bike.

Do Peloton Bikes Come With Toe Cages?

Unfortunately not. However, if you want toe cages from the Peloton brand, you can purchase them from their website.

Although, these can be quite expensive in comparison to some of the options on this list, so keep that in mind!

Which Toe Cages Are Compatible With Peloton Bikes?

Peloton sells their own toe cages that are compatible with Peloton bikes. Other brands, such as Venzo, also make toe cages that are compatible with Peloton bikes.

However, if you have purchased another toe cage, you can still use them with a Peloton bike. You just need to alter the Peloton pedals to fit your toe cages.
